HOLLYWOOD (Variety) - Anna Paquin, who won a supporting actress Oscar for 1993's The Piano, will star in a cable TV adaptation of The Member of the Wedding.

The Carson McCullers novel has already been turned into a play and a 1952 movie.

The New Zealander will portray Frankie Addams, a girl caught between adolescence and adulthood. Set in the American South of 1944, the story focuses on Frankie's relationship with the family cook, played by Alfre Woodard.

The film is set to begin production this month for a January screening on the USA Network.

Re-creating her stage role, Julie Harris was Oscar nominated for playing Frankie in the big screen release.
