Paquin Joins Cast of HurlyBurly

Chris Petrikin

HOLLYWOOD (Variety) - Oscar-winner Anna Paquin has joined the cast of Hurlyburly, in which she will play her first young adult role.

She joins Sean Penn, Robin Wright Penn, Kevin Spacey, Chazz Palminteri, Meg Ryan and Garry Shandling in the feature adaptation of David Rabe's play.

The picture is about three desperate Hollywood wannabes in modern-day Malibu, struggling to define themselves in relation to the women they love, their careers and each other. The 15-year-old New Zealander will play Donna, a drifter and aspiring actress who becomes involved with the trio.

Anthony Drazan directs from a screenplay by Rabe. The independent feature is being fully financed by Storm Entertainment and is slated to begin production Dec. 8.

Paquin -- who received an Oscar for her feature debut in Jane Campion's The Piano -- recently wrapped actor Tony Goldwyn's directorial debut, The Blouse Man, co-starring Diane Lane and Viggo Mortensen. Her other credits include Franco Zeffirelli's adaptation of Charlotte Bronte's Jane Eyre and Carroll Ballard's contemporary picture, Fly Away Home. Paquin also has a cameo role in Steven Spielberg's upcoming slave drama Amistad.
