[IGN] Paramount, Brad Pitt Want World War Z 2
With World War Z scoring Brad Pitt's biggest opening weekend ever, it's no surprise that Paramount is ready to hit the ground running with a sequel.
The apocalyptic tentpole earned $66 million at the domestic box office and $45.8 million from its first 25 foreign markets.
In fact, World War Z was originally envisioned as a trilogy, but that idea was shelved when the production ran into much-reported trouble, requiring an extensive rewrite of the third act and pushing the release date back from December 2012 to June.
Of course, WWZ has since been met with generally positive reviews and a strong box office start. The studio is confident that the film will make back its $190 million budget, as evidenced by its willingness to pursue it as a franchise.
While attending the Moscow premiere last week, Pitt himself hinted at a sequel and mentioned that there is still plenty of material left over from Max Brooks' novel, upon which World War Z is based.
