명대사의 괴력 ③ Wall Street(1987)

명대사의 괴력 세번째로 개인적으로 추종하는 감독 올리버스톤의 87년작 Wall Street 입니다. 요청으로 세번째 작품으로 올립니다.

아래 시퀀스는 게코가 텔다제지 주주총회에서 대주주로서 월급쟁이 사장들에게 엄청나게(쪽팔리게) 성토하는 장면입니다. 속된말로 씹는 장면입니다. 피같은 내돈이 투자된 회사의 손실이 엄청난데 년봉이 수억씩인 당신들은 구조조정 않고 뭐하느냐 입니다.

도대체 내가 욕심내는게 뭐가 나쁘냐는겁니다. 자본주의라는게 사악한 욕심으로해서 성장하는 체제인데 그렇기 때문에 발전이 있는게 아니냐는 다소 궤변을 내뱉는부분이지만 피틔기는 주식시장에서는 살아가는 한 방법이기도 합니다. 게코의 전략은 인사이드 트레이딩입니다.(내부자거래는 불법) 온갖방법으로 정보를 캐내어 투자에 활용을 합니다. 거기에 찰리쉰이 말려듭니다.(물론 찰리쉰도 출세껀수잡는게 목적이었겠지요) 이제 졸업후 첫직장이 주식브로커지만 게코는 철저하게 이용할생각으로 거두게 되는데, 영화말미에는 아버지의 회사마저 게코의 재물이 되었다는것을 알고 게코에게 정면도전을 하게됩니다.

올리버스톤의 부친이 증권브로커 출신이라 이런 영화를 심도있게 만들었다고 생각합니다. 어릴적보고자란게 이런내용이었겠지요. 영화제작중에도 월스트리트 최고의 주식애널리스트를 참가시켜 지속적으로 감수를 받고 제작된 영화입니다. 영화중 고참브로커로 루가 나오는데 실제 올리버스톤 아버지이름과 비슷하다는군요. 감독도 아버지모델을 했다고 합니다. 이번에 두번째를 수십년만에 제작했는데 올리버 스톤의 추종자라면서 저는 아직 보질 못했습니다. ㅠㅜ

 Gekko: Teldar Paper, Mr. Cromwell, Teldar Paper has 33 different vice presidents, each earning over 200 thousand dollars a year. Now, I have spent the last two months analyzing what all these guys do, and I still can't figure it out. One thing I do know is that our paper company lost 110 million dollars last year, and I'll bet that half of that was spent in all the paperwork going back and forth between all these vice presidents.
텔다에는 연봉 20만 달러가 넘는 부사장이 33명이나 됩니다. 두 달간의 노력에도 불구하고 그 돈의 용도는 알아내지 못했죠. 작년에는 텔다제지가 11억을 손해 봤습니다. 장담하건대 그 중 반은 부사장들이 쓴 것입니다

The new law of evolution in corporate America seems to be survival of the unfittest. Well, in my book you either do it right or you get eliminated.

 ■ 사족 : 주식이야기도 이야기지만 이 영화를 처음볼때 여피족(돈말 절라벌고 즐기는 종족)의 샘플이 되지않았나 생각되어집니다. 찰리쉰의집에 내부 미술품하며 인테리어가 엄청났었죠. 당시 이영화를 볼때 마이클더글라스가 입고있던 와이셔츠 카라와 밑단이 다른색상, 무늬 와이셔츠를 게코분위기 내본다고 몇개를 산적이 있습니다.

추가 사족으로 이 장면은 BBK사건 수사중. 김경준사무실에서 나온 DVD 보일러룸(소문에 김경준이 이영화를 좋아했다고함)에서 주식브로커들이 추종하는 인물이 게코로서, 이장면을 서로모여서 몇번이고 보는 장면이 나옵니다. 심지어 대사까지 줄줄 외우면서....
